About Breckenridge
Breckenridge is 98 miles west of Denver International Airport via
Interstate 70 and Colorado. 9 southbound, and 115 miles northwest
of Colorado Springs via Highway 24 and Colorado. 9 northbound.
With four distinctly different interconnected ski mountains, 2,043
acres of terrain and a good mix of beginner-to-expert runs, Breckenridge
Ski Resort begins with Peak 7 at the north end of the area and follows
the Ten Mile Range south to Peak 10, all of which lies within the
Arapaho National Forest. The four mountains offer an awesome vertical
rise of nearly 3,400 feet and a total of 139 trail, serviced by
23 lifts.
Breckenridge, the second most popular ski resort in the nation,
is getting bigger and better every year. New owners, Vail Resorts,
invested nearly $18 million in on-mountain improvements last year
- including two new high-speed quad lifts and a snowmaking system
on Peak 8 - and this year the resort will see $14 million more worth
of capital projects. New to Breckenridge Resort this year is the
Ten Mile Station, the first mid-mountain restaurant to be added
to the mountain in more than a decade. The two-story cafeteria restaurant,
which is located between Peak 9's Beaver Run SuperChair and Peak
10's Falcon lift, has a mining theme and features expansive views
of the Ten Mile Range. Also joining the resort this year are five
new snowcats, providing a 20 percent increase in grooming capacity,
and a new Pipe Dragon tiller for the snowboard park that was rated
"Best Snowboarding Terrain" by Westward magazine's "Best
of Denver" editors. The park is known for its air, hits and
slides, not to mention the largest half-pipe in Breckenridge's history.
The resort will essentially double its snowboarding offerings this
season by adding a terrain park and half-pipe on Peak 8.
Vail Resorts also recently purchased the 208-room Breckenridge Hilton,
renamed the Great Divide Lodge, and has invested in extensive renovations
that include a new restaurant and upgraded recreational and meeting
facilities. The company is also the new owner of the 60-room Village
Hotel near the base of Peak 9, the 71-room Breckenridge Mountain
Lodge and two property management companies that handle 360 condominiums.
And just in case you want more, lift tickets are interchangeable
at nearby sister resort Keystone as well as Arapahoe Basin. In addition
special deals are available for Vail and Beaver Creek resorts, just
40 minutes away via I-70.
Base facilities at Breckenridge are at both Peaks 8 and 9. Amenities
found at each include lift-ticket-sales areas, ski school, ski and
snowboard rentals, first-aid and medical services, ski storage,
child care and a wide range of accommodations. Each base also offers
video and still photography services, gift and retail shops.
Approximately a dozen restaurants with diverse cuisine are all within
walking distance from the Peak 9 base. On-mountain dining is available
at the Peak 9 Restaurant at the top of the Beaver Run SuperChair.
Peak 8 also provides both indoor and outdoor dining on the mountain
- the Vista Haus, including Piz Otto's Italian restaurant at the
top of the Colorado SuperChair; and the Bergenhof at the base. Free
shuttle service moves skiers from parking lots to the bases, and
lifts and trails move them from mountain to mountain. Both free
and paid parking is available.
Base area lifts open daily at 8:30am; the remaining lifts open at
9am, and all lifts close at 4pm.
